Camping Healed My Trauma
In the fall of 2021, a friend introduced me to camping. The following month, I hosted my own Fall, backyard camp sleepover with friends. Soon after that, I began creating romantic camp spaces at home.
Unfortunately, I never went to a real campground until after a very traumatic divorce. I tried therapy, but nothing gave me peace and clarity the way nature did. My first group camping trip in Alabama changed everything for me—it was the breath of fresh air I didn’t know I needed. Since then, camping has become more than fun. It’s where I find joy, peace, clarity, fulfillment, and restoration.
I want to help others experience those things for themselves. I want to see people like me who never camped before fall in love with nature and themselves. I want to break any racial or economic barriers or stereotypes that make camping seem taboo or out of reach.
Camp After Dark delivers more than tents and sleeping bags. We deliver experiences. We understand that sometimes healing and restoration aren't found within four walls, but under the open sky among the stars and nature. We are creating the space for you to do more than just camp.
